Activating ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 licenses in a network installation

This article describes the differences between Per Seat and Concurrent licenses and explains how to activate both of these license types.

Activating a Concurrent License

A Concurrent license is not tied to a specific workstation. When ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 is launched on a workstation that uses the Concurrent licensing scheme, it requests a Concurrent license from the ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 License Server. If a license is available, the server temporarily assigns it to the copy of ABBYY Lingvo that made the request. When the copy of ABBYY Lingvo is closed, the license is no longer used and becomes available to other copies of ABBYY Lingvo (please note that clicking the close button in the main window of ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 only minimizes the application to the system tray). The number of active copies of ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 cannot exceed the number of available Concurrent licenses.
The number of installed copies may exceed the amount of concurrent licenses.
ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 only requests a license from the License Server if it was tied to the server during installation.
A Concurrent license can have the following statuses:
The license is not in use.
― Reserved for %workstation_name%
The license is reserved for %workstation_name% but is not currently in use by that workstation.
Running on %workstation name%
The license is currently in use on %workstation name%.

Activating a Per Seat license

In a network installation of ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6, Per Seat licenses must first be activated in the Licensing Server (when new licenses are acquired using the License Manager), and workstations must be activated when they are installed. When a per-seat license is activated on a workstation, it becomes tied to that workstation. If the License Server can access the internet when a copy of ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 is installed on a workstation, the server will automatically attempt to activate it. When this happens, the ABBYY Lingvo x3/x5/x6 Licensing Service will make a request to using internet explorer's default settings. If your company's security policy does not permit such requests or if the License Server couldn't access the internet, users will have to activate ABBYY Lingvo manually when it is launched on the workstation. The workstation will have to be connected to the internet in order for this to be possible.

Deactivating a Per Seat license

Per-Seat licenses can become "stuck" on a workstation when the workstation malfunctions. To free a license that's "stuck" on a malfunctioning workstation, you will have to deactivate it. Once the license has been deactivated, you will be able to use it on other workstations.

To deactivate a license:
1. Launch ABBYY Lingvo x3\x5\x6 License Manager.
2. Select a license and click the Deactivate button.
3. Follow the instructions of the Deactivation Wizard.

You can find detailed instructions on managing licenses in the Administrator's Guide. You can find the Administrator's Guide in the distribution kit (Server\ABBYY Lingvo x3 License Server\Administrator's Guide or License Server\ABBYY Lingvo x5 License Server\Administrator's Guide or License Server\ABBYY Lingvo x6 License Server\Administrator's Guide).
