Deleting a trial license

Every time ABBYY Lingvo is launched, one of the following error messages appears: N days left before the license expires <list of licenses> or The following licences have expired <list of licenses>.

Description

Every time ABBYY Lingvo is launched, one of the following error messages appears:

N days left before the license expires

<List of licenses>

or

The following licences have expired:

<List of licenses>

When I try to activate the application using my serial number, another error message appears:

This serial number is already in use.

Reason

These message indicate that you don't have a license to use some of the dictionaries in ABBYY Lingvo.

This usually happens when you install a version of ABBYY Lingvo that includes more dictionaries than the version you purchased. For example, if you acquired Lingvo x3 European Version, but use the installer for the demo version of Lingvo x3 Multilingual Version. In this case Chinese, Latin, Turkish and Ukrainian dictionaries from the Multilingual version will not be activated by your serial number for the European Edition. Another example would be using the serial number from Lingvo x5 Home Edition to activate Lingvo x5 Professional Edition: the specialized dictionaries from the professional edition will not be activated.

These error messages can also appear if the trial period of any dictionaries or dictionary sets has expired. Some dictionaries, such as the Economicus dictionary, can be downloaded separately and have a trial period.

Solution

To fix this problem, you can either activate the dictionaries for which you don't have a license by purchasing a serial number, or remove the trial licenses. To remove trial licenses:

For ABBYY Lingvo x3 open the folder located at C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\Lingvo\14.0\Licenses (Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8) or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ABBYY\Lingvo\14.0\Licenses (Windows XP)

For ABBYY Lingvo x5 open the folder located at C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\Lingvo\15.0\Licenses (Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8) or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ABBYY\Lingvo\15.0\Licenses (Windows XP)

For ABBYY Lingvo x6 open the folder located at C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\Lingvo\16.0\Licenses (Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8) or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ABBYY\Lingvo\16.0\Licenses (Windows XP)

Remove the license file that has the serial number of the trial license in its name. You can view serial numbers of licenses by selecting Licenses... from the Help menu.
