Office 2013/2016/365 crashes at launch because old version of FineReader (or PDF Transformer) is installed

Description

The error message “Microsoft Word (Excel) has stopped working” occurs when MS Office application start is starting

Solution

Early version of program (FineReader 9.0 and earlier, PDF Transformer 2.0 and earlier) cannot be integrated with MS Office 2013/2016. It means that you are unable to start FineReader directly from Office applications, but both programs (ABBYY and MS Office) can work completely and independently on your computer.

If Integration with MS Office applications option was checked during ABBYY FineReader installation, it is necessary to disable it to recover correct work of MS Office.

To fix this problem, please follow steps below:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features ( or Start > Settings > Apps & Features for Windows 10)
  2. In the list of the installed programs, select ABBYY FineReader and click the Uninstall button.
  3. Install the program again and uncheck Integration with MS Office applications during the installation.

. Similarly for PDF Transformer

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features ( or Start > Settings > Apps & Features for Windows 10)
  2. In the list of the installed programs, select ABBYY PDF Transformer and click the Uninstall button.
  3. Install the program again and uncheck Integration with MS Office applications during the installation.
