Error Message: "Timeout starting and initializing server"

Description

Timeout starting and initializing server

When I start program components (Administration Station, Operator station, Scanning Station, Project Setup Station, Verification Station), the following error message is displayed: "Timeout starting and initializing server."

Reason

The message “Timeout starting and initializing server” is issued when a background process takes too long to start and times out. The reasons of the time-out are currently unknown.

Solution

If you see this message on the Administration Station, Operator Station, Verification Station or Project Setup Station, please do the following:

  1. In the Task Manager, click the Processes tab and see if FlexiBR.exe is running.
  2. In the installation folder, call the command line and execute the following command:
    FlexiBR.exe -stationType:user
  3. Wait 3 – 5minutes.
  4. In the Task Manager check if FlexiBR.exe is running.
  5. If the process is running, execute the following command:
    StationMonitor.exe -stationType:user
  6. Try again performing the actions that caused the error message to appear.

If the error persists, please send the following to the technical support service responsible for your region:

Please state the times when you performed the two actions above, as we will need to see which error messages have been logged during that period and when you performed the actions.

If you see this message on the Scanning Station, please do the following:

  1. In the Task Manager, click the Processes tab and see if ScanStationBr.exe is running.
  2. In the installation folder, call the command line and execute the following command:
    scanstationbr.exe FC (note that FC must be all caps as the command is case-sensitive).
  3. Wait 3 – 5 minutes.
  4. In the Task Manager check if ScanStationBr.exe is running.
  5. Try again performing the actions that caused the error message to appear.

If the error persists on the Scanning Station, try stopping all the background processes:

  1. On the station, start the registry editor and  open the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ABBYY\ScanStationFC\2.0\Shell\Frames ;
  2. Add this string value: RunBackgroundTasks = false ;
  3. Try again performing the actions that caused the error message to appear.

Note that once you stop the background processes, you will only be able to send batches from the Scanning Station one by one, i.e. you won’t be able to start another export instance while a batch is exported.
